Worship and the Guitar
The guitar has long been an instrument of worship. We don’t find the word ‘guitar’
in the Bible, but we do find the instrument called the lyre. The lyre was a ten-stringed instrument similar to the guitar.
Also historically, we find many stringed instruments used in worship.
1 Chronicles 13:8 says, “David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs
and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.” In Psalm 150:3 it says, “Praise Him with the sounding
trumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre.”
It is obviously very difficult to get your hands on a lyre, seeing as they come from the days of David. So the major instrument
of choice for worship music today has become the guitar. It is fun and easy to learn. You will enjoy playing the guitar, and
you will be surprised at how soon you will be playing your favorite worship songs.
Above all, my goal is for you to gain a better relationship with God through your worship on the guitar. As David would
play before the Lord, I also pray that you will, too. “...David would take his harp and play. Then relief would come
to Saul; he would feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.” (1 Sam. 16:23) I pray that the words to the songs
you sing become inscribed in your heart and that the notes that you play rise up to the heavens...
Be Blessed!!!

you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your
